As a long-time colleague of Jim's brother Greg and a recently transplanted resident of Ramsey, I send belated condolences to the family. Jim was obviously a beloved and well-respected member of the Ramsey community. Rest in peace.

Top, You’re family. Family. It means everything. What else is there? We share cousins, aunts and uncles. It’s a great big beautiful family. I miss you and realize through you how truly blessed we are and always were to be part of this dynamic family. You were just the greatest cousin. The memories of you and Greg during our childhood will keep me young in heart forever. We ‘played’!! And later the times, going out wherever with “Chuck”. No one said my brother’s name, like you, or better than you Top! You have the natural ability to make a joke outta ONE WORD! Who does that but you? The Top! God Blesses You.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Grasso family on Jim's passing. He was a very good friend and fellow athletic director with whom I worked for a long time. His sincerity and dedication to his work on behalf of many parents, communities, student athletes, and coaches were characterized with a smile and a sense of humor.
I join the many who have said that he will be sorely missed.
May God grant his family a peace that passes all understanding

I am so sorry for all you have gone through in the past few months and the loss of a wonderful man. It has and will be a long, hard road, but I have to say that I’ve never met such a large, loving group of people in such a short period of time. None of you are alone in this and I hope you all reach out to the wonderful network of friends and family that love Topper and all of you in the coming months. I too am here for all of you. Our deepest sympathies ❤️.
Love,

4 - TOPPER
The loss of you Jim, is hard to take,
Your gift was unique, genuine and truly great.
Your smile and wit shined brightly through,
Touching people with things you would do.
Sharing your heart that blossomed inside,
Yet still standing strong, with your tougher side.
You valued connection more than material things,
Your lesson of giving and all the joy that it brings.
Your ability to calm the seas of doubt,
Believing in those who were counted out.
A son, brother, father, husband & friend.
A man of character from beginning to end.
Your Suffern roots started your trip,
On to college & football as an F&M Dip.
You played with passion like no other,
A role model for your younger brother.
A proud member of Pi Lamda phi,
It's more than a lifetime, this isn't goodbye.
Gras and topper nicknames we'll cherish,
A legacy created that will never perish.
Becoming a coach of football, hoops and track.
A teacher who was determined and had your back.
Buying a home that housed the coaching staff,
Rooms filled with good times and always a laugh.
Roommates like cheese, courier and Mully,
With visits from players like Burns & Sully.
Love shack definitely your favorite Jam,
Dancing like a star with a smile of a ham.
Eventually you would ask Laura to be your wife,
Your heart had found the love of your life.
A transformation on Circle Ave,
A new life you were about to have.
Creating a home and living your dream,
Anna, Meghan and Joe, your most important team.
Building programs at Paramus, Demarest and Ramsey,
Touching many lives as a special AD.
Teaching others to there's more to the game,
It's the character built and pride in your name.
We will call on our courage for losing you now,
Embracing wisdom as we understand how.
We will celebrate you by living strong,
Seize your example and carry on.
Your legacy is one we will all endear,
A life well done, we will continue it from here.
Comfort in that your watching from high above,
Forever an inspiration of guidance and love.
We love you Jim and it's hard to part,
Your spirit will forever be etched in our hearts.
Love always, your friend, AJ

my sincere condolences to the entire Grasso family. Have had the pleasure of knowing Coach for many years. Truly will be missed by many but his guidance will always be there. As a friend whom I would see around town, as a fellow parishioner who would attend the 1100 Sunday mass, as a coach whom I respected and occasionally would seek a little advice, as a parent of three of my own children who had the pleasure of knowing Coach in their elementary years. Coach you will be missed and not forgotten. You have left your mark! From the Roth team Al-Stephen-Suzy and Andrew.
Thoughts and prayers to your beautiful family Coach Al Roth

Jim, my mom is Lou Molino’s sister, and we got to meet you and your family during his funeral. We knew that you would be a great successor to Lou, as everyone told us how many of the same qualities you two shared. To your family, we send you our deepest condolences. I know you two have formed a power team up in heaven!

I am an English teacher at Ramsey high and a parent of Emily Derleth. Jim was so wonderful to my daughter and mentored her in her sports, always talking to her privately to help her cope with the struggle and frustrations athletes face. To me, he was a friend who made me laugh as we passed each other in the halls and took my nickname, Derdeder, to new heights by putting a silly twist on it each and every time he saw me. As someone else said, this makes no sense. Jim will always live on in my heart.

So sad to hear that life is taken away from another good man before his time. It makes no sense. Jim was a neighbor, a client and my son's gym teacher at BF. As a runner I saw Jim on the saddle river path many times. He would always chat with us and always had a smile. May he rest in peace. My heart goes out to Laura and Jim's children.
