Obituary of Marvin B. Van Dyk

Marvin B. Van Dyk, age 87, of Franklin Lakes, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, June 23, 2018.  Born in Paterson, Marvin lived in Wyckoff before moving to Franklin Lakes 50 years ago.  He was founder of Van Dyk Nursing Homes in both Ridgewood and Montclair, NJ.  Marvin was a lifelong member of the Hawthorne Gospel Church, where he was Chairman of the Church Board. Additionally, Marvin was Chairman of the Board of Hawthorne Christian Academy, Vice Chairman of the Board of Valley Hospital and Chairman of Valley Home Care.  Marvin was a co-founder of the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat and helped established the Hawthorne Christian Academy.  Surviving is his loving wife of 67 years, Gertrude (nee Fuhr), his devoted children, Robert and his wife Elizabeth, Kathleen and her husband, Dr. James Van Elswyk and Joyce and her husband Jerry Romine.  Marvin also leaves his adoring grandchildren, Kristina, Reed, James and his wife Ana, Brice, Connor, Jason and his wife Chrissy and Jennifer, his great granddaughters, Jane and Maggie and his brother William Van Dyk.  A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 27 at 6:00 PM at the Hawthorne Gospel Church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Hawthorne Christian Academy, 2000 State Highway 208, Hawthorne, NJ 07506 or Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 North Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450 or Alzheimer’s New Jersey, 425 Eagle Rock Ave., Suite 203, Roseland, NJ 07068 (www.alznj.org).
