Obituary of Mildred L. Skead
Our beautiful wife, mother and friend, Mildred L. Skead, has taken leave from this place to be with her Savior Jesus Christ. Mildred passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the age of 91. She was born on July 29, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY. In 1949, Mildred married her husband Robert A. Skead and celebrated their 69th anniversary on April 23, 2018. She and Robert A. Skead kept company for seven years prior to their marriage. The Skead's moved from Brooklyn, NY to Staunton VA, to Wyckoff, NJ where they have lived for 59 years. Mildred was well known in the area for her excellence in repairing and restoring antique dolls under the banner of Butternut Doll Hospital. She was also a member and officer of the Wyckoff Women's (Evening) Club; a longtime member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ridgewood where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the Women's Ministry. An animal lover, she was also renowned for her kindness to all and her quiet and adoring spirit. Mildred is survived by her husband Robert; two daughters: Lynne Skead, Gail Cohen and her husband Robert, and a son Robert John Skead, his wife Cheryl; grandchildren Allison and Matthew Cohen , Robbie, Kirsten and John Skead and a great-granddaughter Cameron Cohen. Also beloved extended family members Elizabeth, Justin and Camille Charles. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 155 Linwood Ave., Ridgewood, NJ. Interment will follow in Valleau Cemetery in Ridgewood, NJ.
