Obituary of Arthur Gill
Arthur Donald Gill, age 88 of Brevard County, FL, formerly of Waldwick and
Glen Rock, NJ died Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Arthur graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1936 where he played varsity baseball. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with a BS degree in Commerce in 1940 where he played freshman and varsity baseball and was a member of the Interdormitory Council. He served in the United States Naval Intelligence in World War II 1941-1945 and was assigned to the cryptograph room at the United States Naval Headquarters, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii in 1951-1952 during the Korean War. He retired from Mobil Oil Corporation in 1983, primarily in the Treasurers Department with 37 years service during which time he was Manager of International Banking, Chief Foreign Exchange Trader and in 1983 the first company employee to issue and sign a check in excess of one billion dollars and was the Assistant Treasurer of all the company's overseas exploration and producing affiliates. He was a member of the Knickerbocker Country Club, Tenafly, NJ and the Lincolnshire Family History Society, Lincolnshire (Lincs) England through which he traced his English ancestors back as far as the 1500s. The Genealogy Society of Bergen County, The Society for the Preservation of the 14th Brooklyn (84th New York) New York Infantry (a Civil War Organization), former Director and Treasurer of The Hobbyists Unlimited and Community Meals, Inc. (Meals on Wheels), also former Director and Treasurer of the American Red Cross, Ridgewood. He coached little and pony league baseball in Glen Rock, NJ. Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Ruth (nee Russlend) Gill of Brevard County, FL, his son Donald Gill and his wife Elizabeth of Brevard County, FL, and several nieces. Visiting Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. Funeral Service Saturday 9:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
