Obituary of Richard E. Neuman
Richard E. “Dick” Neuman passed away peacefully on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the age of 96. Born in New York City, NY, he moved to NJ at an early age growing up in West New York, NJ before moving to Woodcliff Lake, NJ and finally Wyckoff, NJ. Dick graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelors of Science degree and from NYU with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. At one time he taught at the Columbia University Graduate School of Engineering as an adjunct associate professor. Dick spent most of his business career with Trans World Airlines starting as a Management Engineer retiring in 1984 as a staff Vice President. He subsequently worked for Nabisco as a staff Vice President before starting his own consulting firm. In Woodcliff Lake, Dick served on the Planning Board and Chairman of the Ecology Committee. In Wyckoff, he served as the President on the Board of the Cedar Hill Condominium Association as well as the Ledges Condominium Association in Plymouth, VT.
Dick served in the United States Army in the European Theater during World War II as a First Lieutenant combat platoon leader, then as a 1st Infantry Company Commander. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star Metal and a Combat Infantry Badge. His unit was detached and became part of a combat force that was one of the first Americans to cross the Rhine on the Ludendorf railway bridge in the Remagen. Dick is predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy and a sister Elivia Tee. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn E. Smith; two sons: Richard F. Neuman, his wife Terrie; Douglas W. Neuman, his wife Katie; seven grandchildren: Daniel (Kate), Gregory (Carey), Amanda (Ben), Christina, Ashley, Douglas, Marissa; three great grandchildren: Carolina, Theodore and Dylan; and his dear companion Camille Carstens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady Mother of the Church, 209 Woodcliff Ave., Woodcliff Lake, NJ. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
