Obituary of Robert D. Cairns
Robert D Cairns, 80 of Midland Park, NJ passed away peacefully at home on February 18th. Born in Paterson, NJ in 1937, he moved to Midland Park in 1950 where he resided the remainder of his life. He was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his dedicated wife of 60 years, Olga, children Robert D. and Michael, as well as his grandchildren Brian, Shaun, Kyle, Ryan, Brady and Tylerann and his sister, Joan Quigley. His son Brian Cairns predeceased him in 2015.
Bob was an avid Giant fan and a loyal and devoted family man who loved being around family, a good joke and a full glass of wine. If you were to ask him one of his favorite memories he would say Saturday night with the grandkids “what happens at pop pop’s stays at pop pop’s”
Bob was a graduate of the first graduating class of Bergen County Technical High School. After graduation, he served as a Seabee in the United States Navy. He was an electrician by trade and spent over 42 years in a variety of roles at Public Service Electric and Gas, where he retired as a Service Dispatcher. He was active in the IBEW serving as a shop steward, Executive Board Chairman and President of Local Union 94 during his tenure at PSE&G.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, February 21st from 4-8 pm at Vander Plaat Funeral home, 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the St. Jude Tribute Program, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
