Obituary of Walter Kaczala

Kaczala, Walter, age 87, of Mahwah, died September 29, 2012 at his residence after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he resided in Hillsdale before moving to Mahwah 20 years ago. As the Proprietor of Homestead Plumbing & Building Corporation, he was a Developer and Building Contractor for more than 60 years. Walter was also an active member of Faith Reformed Church, Midland Park and served in the US Navy during World War II. Walter had a passion for the ocean, traveling the world with his wife, and was an avid golfer which included a "hole-in-one" in 2000. Surviving are his two daughters, Betty Ann Kaczala of Allendale and Sandra Lee Irwin and her husband, Michael of Danbury, CT, his sister, Dorothy Reigel of Lake San Marcos, CA and two brothers, Theodore Kaczala of River Vale, NJ and Ronald Kaczala of Wantage, NJ. Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Courtney Leigh Wolff and Morgan Taylor Wolff and two step grandchildren, Rebecca and Nathaniel Irwin. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Lillian (nee Braakman) on September 13, 2012 and a step granddaughter, Josephine Irwin. Visiting will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect St., Midland Park, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held immediately following at 10:30 AM. The interment will take place at George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Walter's memory may be made to Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation (please indicate on memo line "Heart & Vascular Hospital"), 360 Essex Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601.
