My granddaughter, Kenzie Craig, is on the track team with Ben. I had known about his battle with cancer from my daughter (Kimberly Vasgerdsian) and he was in our prayers. We were all devastated when he passed away as was everyone else in Wyckoff whether they knew Ben personally or not.
I read all the articles about Ben and his achievements and what an amazing boy he was, but I wasn't ready for the the outpouring of support we saw on Friday. Even though the articles told of his kindness, selflessness, sportsmanship, and basically what a great kid he was, the impact that a boy of his age had on the community was testament to all that was said of him and more.
My deepest sympathy to your family. To have raised a son as special as Ben he would have to have equally special parents.

To the Landel Family,
I know of the pain you must be going through. I know all to well of the tears you are shedding, but you have a loving and supporting community of Wyckoff, Ramapo High School and so many others who will be right by your side. I never had the privilege to meet Ben but I know how much of a fighter he was and how much of humble human being he was just from hearing things from past and current Ramapo students, along with past and current faculty at Ramapo. I wish your family nothing but peace and comfort in this tough time.
Rest easily young Raider, you will be missed.
