Obituary of Hans Joachim Weber
Hans Joachim Weber, 85, passed peacefully at his home in Mahwah, N.J. on the morning of January 6, 2018, with his wife and son by his side. Born in Hannover, Germany, he came to the U.S. in 1955 where he lived in Wyckoff, Old Bridge, Hawthorne and Mahwah. A watchmaker by trade, Hans worked in watch and clock repair for local clock and jewelry stores, Sears, Cartier and Tiffany & Co., where he retired in 1998. He served honorably in the U.S. Army in 1957 and 1958. He was an active member of the Watchmakers’ Association of New Jersey, serving as an officer, and eventually as its president. He was the oldest living member and fellow of the Horological Society of New York where he served as a trustee, and he recently attended the organization’s 150th Anniversary celebration as the only member who was also present at the group’s 100th Anniversary. He was also a member of the American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute. Hans was active in the Church in Radburn in Fair Lawn, N.J. where he proudly served as a trustee. He leaves behind his wife Laura of 58 years, his three sons: Erich his significant other Kelly, Mark, John and his wife Bridget Devane; five grandchildren, Krystal, who is with child, her fiancee Paul, Julienne, her fiancee Brian, Star, Hans and Nora; one great-grandchild Noah; his sister Erika Wacker of Schwartzenbeck, Germany; a niece Andrea and a nephew Stefan. Among Hans’ loved ones were the many friends of his children and grandchildren who he treated like family. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 13th from 11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. with a funeral service commencing at 2:30 p.m. at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, N.J.
