Obituary of Lona A. Duffy

Duffy, Lona A. age 84 of Waldwick, passed away peacefully while under Hospice Care at her home on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.  Lona was born in Jersey City, NJ and moved to Waldwick at the age of three with her mother, Teresa Campbell and her father, Arthur Campbell.  Lona married the love of her life, Robert Duffy, on October 18, 1958.  They remained in Waldwick where they raised their family with the loving help from Lona’s mother.  Lona was a switchboard operator in NYC in her younger years and a dental assistant for many years for several doctors, but most recently Dr. James Curreri in Wyckoff, NJ.

Lona was a parishioner of Zion Lutheran Church in Saddle River, NJ, under the wonderful leadership of Pastor Wesley Smith.  She was very active in her church and made several friendships while there.  Since Lona was Lutheran and her children were raised Catholic, the family always celebrated Easter Sunday and Christmas Eve at Lona’s church.

Lona’s husband retired early which allowed them to travel extensively.  She will be remembered for being a loving mother, a serial shopper, who often returned what she just bought, a host to many parties on Dante Place, torturing her teenager kids with her cooking, her laughter and in many other special ways.

Surviving are her two beloved daughters, Debra Duffy of Butler, NJ and her significant other, Richard Lauretta, Donna Andersen and her husband Norman Andersen of McKinney, TX.  Lona is also survived by her five grandchildren, Gavin, Maxwell, Campbell, Mackenzie and Mallory.  She also leaves behind her beloved caregiver, Oksana Osnovina and her beautiful daughter Anastasia, who was like another grandchild to Lona.  She was predeceased by her father, Arthur Campbell, her mother Teresa Campbell, her husband Robert Duffy, her son Robert Duffy, and his stillborn twin whom Lona will finally meet in heaven.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 2 pm – 5 pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home at 257 Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff, NJ.  A funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, November 27, 2017 at 11 am at Zion Lutheran Church, located at 96 East Allendale Road, Saddle River, NJ.  Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lona’s name to the Zion Lutheran Church.
