My condolences to the Judge’s family. I was not in New Jersey when I heard of his passing. Very sad day! We did have a great working relationship and I will never forget what a kind, easygoing man he was. I enjoyed the long journey with the Judge in the Appellate Division and the Supreme Court!. To see each other 5 days a week for 21 years you become family for sure. A lot of good times and ups and downs too, but we were there for each other.
Judge may you Rest In Peace!

Many will remember Ariel as a distinguished jurist, but I knew him in a different capacity. We started together on the same day at the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office and became good friends who had many great times both in and outside the office. The murder trial where I was his investigator, the parties at his place in Weehawken, the many long conversations that had nothing to do with the law. If memory serves, we had a joint farewell party when we left the office. In 1999, he performed my wedding ceremony. Regretfully, my contact since has been sporadic, such as his letter to me describing in fascinating detail his White House interview for an open spot on the U.S.Court of Appeals . Ariel used to like to write poetry. One of his poems , circa 1975, started " I know someday the sun will die..." Indeed. Rest in peace, old friend. My most sincere condolences to Ariel's family, and especially his son, Gabriel, about whom he always spoke in glowing terms.

Dear Karen,
What a great father, husband and citizen.
I once asked an elder in my church: "Why do good men die young?" He said: I really don't know; so they don't have to die old!" I figured that that was as good as any answer.
"Cry not that I am gone; but be thankful that I was!"

Ariel was a close friend during our shared four years at Berry Academy near Rome Georgia. He was an academic, an athlete, a leader, a friend and a man of character. Even in High School Ariel proposed a piece of legislation for the Hi-Y Youth Assembly which was later considered by the Georgia Legislature. On a trip to NYC with my family fifteen years ago Ariel graciously allowed us to stay at his house. He was a kind man who loved his wife Karen and son Gabriel very much. From my High School Days I know that Ariel was a Christian believer and I look forward to reuniting my friendship with him in Glory someday. Bye for now, Ariel.

Dear Karen ( and Ariel's other loved ones),
I am very sorry to hear of Ariel's passing. Though I had not seen Ariel since high school, he was one of the few that I had very clear memories of, as that skinny long distance runner! One who I had to struggle to keep up with! ( We were on the track and Cross Country teams together, although he was a year ahead of me) He is also one of the very few of my Berry Brothers who was still quite recognizable from HS days. I am very glad I got to see him and talk to him, and you Karen, at that reunion. Karen, God bless you and your family and loved ones, comfort you and may God give you the peace tat surpasses all understanding!

His passing brings many recollections of good times visiting with Ariel when we both sat in Hackensack. A fine guy and a great colleague.
