Obituary of Ursula Berninger

Berninger, Ursula “Elsie” age 96 of Midland Park, died surrounded by her family on Friday, October 6, 2017.  Born in Bridgeport, CT, Elsie grew up in Paterson where she was a graduate of Eastside High School.  In her early career she worked for Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical Corp. in Wood-Ridge where she met her husband Bernard.  She and Bernard, (Bernie), were married in 1943 and moved to Midland Park where they raised their family.  Later, she was employed by the Midland Park Board of Education, where she was secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for 24 years before her retirement in 1987.  Elsie was a member of the Friends of the Midland Park Library where she served as treasurer.  Surviving is her loving husband of 74 years, Bernie, her devoted children, Fred and his wife Bridget of Saddle Brook, Mark and his wife Carol of Midland Park and Janis and her husband Gordon Oeschger of Chester Springs, PA.  Elsie also leaves her 12 adoring grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.  Funeral services for Elsie will be private.  Memorial contributions may be made in Elsie’s name to the Midland Park Public Library, 250 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432.  Arrangements by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff (www.vpfh.com).
