Obituary of Mary E. Grillo
Mary E. Grillo (nee Hoyt), age 88, died Friday, August 11, 2017 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born and resided in Endicott, NY, before moving to Staten Island, then Sparta, NJ and most recently, Midland Park, NJ. Mary was a parishioner of Church of the Nativity, Midland Park, NJ. Throughout her lifetime, Mary was a dedicated and very active parishioner, no matter what Catholic Church she worshiped in. Prior to her retirement, she was a Registered Nurse at Carmel Richmond Nursing Home in Staten Island. In her earlier years, Mary moved to New Jersey where she met her husband, Robert Grillo, who together raised five beautiful and loving children, whom Mary is survived by: Theresa Delaney and her husband, Chip, Marie Kearney and her husband, Chris, Bob Grillo and his wife, Teri, John Grillo and his wife, Teresa and Elizabeth Cultraro and her husband, George. Also left behind to carry on her legacy is Mary’s 13 loving grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Robert Grillo on August 27, 1995, her parents, John E. and Cecelia Hoyt and her sister, Sister Joan Marie, Daughters of Charity. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 14, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, 9:30 am, at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery Staten Island, NY. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Julia’s Butterfly Foundation, (juliasbutterflyfoundation.org), 637 Wyckoff Avenue Suite 285, Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
