Obituary of Charles D. Abbott
Charles D. Abbott died peacefully on June 5th, 2017. Chuck, as he was known to friends and family, was born in Mountain View, California, April 29th, 1927. After the death of his father in 1934, the family moved to Lake City where a rural life inspired him to travel. Working from age 9 – caring for livestock, learning the complex chemistry of pest control, driving tractors and any and all other work he could get his hands on – he was more than prepared for the military, joining the Army in 1945. A conscientious objector, he joined as a medic where he received emergency medical training. After the Army, Chuck worked numerous jobs, making a name for himself in the world of wire sales. He moved to New York and married Sandy De Matteo in September of 1967. He worked for International Wire and Hudson Wire as Sales Manager until retiring, despite the protests of his company. He was very proud of his work in the aerospace industry, working closely with Lockheed and Boeing, able to contribute to the world of flight, near and dear to his heart. Chuck lived in Mahwah, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife, two sons, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The Abbott family will receive friends at The Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ on Friday, June 9, 2017, 8:45 AM until 9:45 AM. A service of prayers and remembrance will be held at 9:00 AM. Entombment will follow in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the American Heart Association at www.donatenow.heart.org or American Institute for Cancer Research www.aicr.org.
