Obituary of Irene M. Thompson
Irene M. "GG" Thompson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at the age of 80. Born in Englewood, NJ, she was a long time resident of Bloomingdale, NJ, coming from River Edge, NJ. Irene was a 1954 graduate of Leonia High School, was a bookkeeper at Twinbrook Nurseries in Franklin Lakes, NJ, where she loved arranging flowers and making bows, a long time parishioner of St. Anthony’s of Padua Church in Butler, loved playing cards and was an avid N.Y. Rangers fan, N.Y. Yankees fan and a Greenbay Packers fan. Irene is predeceased by her two brothers: Frederick, James and her sister Virginia. Survivors include her husband Donald W. Thompson whom she was married to for 59 years; son Michael E. Thompson, daughter Patricia A. Walters and her loving companion Bruce A. Gessin; four grandchildren: Daniel, Jennifer and her husband Seth, Brian and Jeffrey; great grandson Walter; two sisters: Agnes T. Fino, Gloria A. Scherer, two brothers: Robert A. Scherer and Walter W. Scherer. Irene is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 3 – 7 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 787 Franklin Lakes Rd., Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417. Interment will follow at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
