Obituary of Donald L. Garber
Donald L. (Don) Garber, 86, of Saddle River, NJ, died January 21, 2017. He died peacefully after a valiant battle against an unending onslaught of medical issues. Don was born November 27, 1930. He enlisted in the army in 1952 and proudly served his country during the Korean conflict. After his honorable discharge, he used the GI Bill and earned undergraduate degrees from Seton Hall University and received his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law. Don passed the bar in 1961 and practiced trial law in Hackensack, NJ for over 50 years. During his career, he was appointed by President Richard M. Nixon to serve as a government appeal agent throughout the Vietnam War. He served on the Judicial Nominating Committee in Bergen County for many years as well as Chairman of the Fee Arbitration Committee and the Ethics Committee. He is also a past President of the Lawyers Club of Bergen County. Don will be remembered by all those who knew him for his integrity, loyalty, independence, outspokenness and unyielding optimism. He will be remembered by his family for his selflessness and unconditional love and support. Don is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marilyn; his son Scott and wife Janice; his son Bruce and wife Paula; his daughter Lynn and husband Gary and three grandsons Jack, Reid and Bryce. Receiving of Friends will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 3-8 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday beginning at 9:30 AM in the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
