Obituary of Lorene N. Snodderly

Lorene Nolen Snodderly, 97, of Wyckoff, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2017. Lorene was born in Stoneville, NC, on March 31, 1919. She earned a B.A. from the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC Greensboro). After raising three children, she taught elementary school in Fairfax County, VA. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Don Snodderly, moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where they worked as craft demonstrators at Old Salem. After retiring a second time, they volunteered at the Food Bank, the Ronald McDonald House, and North Carolina Baptist Hospital, where they both were honored for completing 4000 volunteer hours. After Don’s death, Lorene relocated to Longview Assisted Living in Wyckoff, where she received a volunteer of the year award, started a newsletter for residents, and published a book, “Lorene’s Scrapbook of Humor and Uncommon Sense.” She is survived by her daughter Susan Coppola of Wyckoff, her sons Max Snodderly of Austin, TX, and Dan Snodderly of Washington, DC, four grandchildren (Paul, Martha, and Anthony Coppola and Colin Harris), and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 28, at Longview Assisted Living, Christian Health Care Center, 311 Sicomac Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Lorene’s name to the Nolen-Snodderly Scholarship Fund at Rockingham Community College, P.O. Box 38, Wentworth, NC 27375. Arrangements are by Vander Plaat Funeral Home (vpfh.com) of Wyckoff, NJ.
