Obituary of Garret J Dykhouse

Garret J. Dykhouse of Wyckoff, NJ passed peacefully into the arms of his faithful Savior on November 2, 2016 at the age of 90. Son of the late Henry and Anna Dykhouse, he was born in Midland Park, NJ on August 24, 1926. Head of a large and loving family, he is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Raeann, his three sons and their wives, David and Barbara of Franklin Lakes, Larry and Carole of Midland Park, and Tom and Linda of North Haledon, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Jessie Vogel, in 2011. A US Navy veteran of World War II, he spent his entire career as an underwriter and executive for Royal Insurance Company in New York before retiring in 1988. He was a dedicated volunteer in numerous national and community organizations including service as a board member and chairman of the Christian Health Care Center and Christian Health Care Center Foundation in Wyckoff, a board member of the Eastern Christian School Association and the Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat, a Deacon and Elder at Faith Community Church in Wyckoff, a member of the National Disaster Response Team of the American Red Cross, and a member of the Wyckoff Volunteer Ambulance Corps which he served as captain. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6 from 2-6 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave, Wyckoff. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 7 at 11 AM at Faith Community Church in Wyckoff. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Eastern Christian School or the Christian Health Care Center.
