I worked with Peter at Liz in the middle 1990's. I think of him every day, especially when working on CL programs, of which Pete was especially fond.
Peter Levy was the Gandalf of the IBM i: a true wizard and master of his craft and of the English language. And a good friend.
Some memories..
- Pete rollerblading through the streets of Little Ferry and then back to his cube over the carpet when he was at Liz III (I had the cube next to him for awhile and it was an education.)
- Getting my first visit from the stocking footed wizard himself while beta testing OS/400 V2R3 on the dev machine at Liz III.
- Peter's booming laugh, heard throughout the developer's habitat at Liz III.
- His technique of sometimes inserting nonsense into the middle of his status reports to make sure that his boss actually read it.
- Pete and another coworker taping huge greenbar printouts of the lunar surface on the wall of the new Liz HQ.
He is truly missed. My condolences to Diane, and his family.

It's not hard to speak about all his great abilities and successes. His influence and impact on me is permanent and I will have it forever. His love of art, his own aesthetic flows were very, very strong, and his love of music is what all musicians appreciate and work hard to earn.
He always lent great support for musicians in every way imaginable. Rock groups like Howie and the Mutants, The Bob Charles Band, Turning Point, great jazz players, classical musicians, everybody. When Howie played CBGB and OMFUG opposite D. Slade, Dropkick Murphys and the Bad Brains, there was Peter K. Levyhead, acting as driver and crew chief, transporting band and equipment to the gig in a van stolen from Hillcrest Gardens. Later on, when the band needed special facilities for important functions, it was Levyhead preying on the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Levy and actually engineered the use of Hillcrest Gardens itself (!) for an audition and booking agency showcases.
He never complained despite us driving him crazy in Rancho Blanco I and II,
nor in any other of his homes that we invaded. One night, after a rehearsal at RB II with Kawazi Abba Eban (who flew in from Paris), we all hung in the living room talking about the music we had just played, and art in general. Levyhead padded off about 2am. "You want us to leave?" "Just lock the door, I'm going to bed". One by one the others in the room started to fall asleep on the couches, etc. Three of us talked until 5 o'clock in the morning. Next time I was at the ranch, he wanted to show me the kitchen floor he had put in and what Tim had done downstairs in the studio. Not once did he mention our freeloading all night long while he slept. I can go on all night with stories like these, but you've got it.
Always generous. Always considerate. Always a friend to the musician. I choose to drive through the sadness and celebrate his impact and his great abilities.
He is an immortal spiritual being. I send my very best thoughts to Diane and to the Levy family.
I don't worry about him. I'm running right behind him, joyous with the knowledge and certainty that we will meet again and have fun all over again.

Sometimes words just don't suffice, and this is one of those times... I'm so sorry to hear of Pete's passing, and for the impact to his loved ones and friends. Receiving such news has been a kick in the gut. I worked with him at Liz Claiborne, and we have been in touch at various times over the years since. Peter was a thoughtful and kind person, supportive and generous with his time, wisdom and laughter. Truly a good person, the world is a lesser place without him. I'll remember him with great warmth.

Peter's passing is such a loss for me, not just professionally, but also personally. I take comfort in knowing we learned a lot from each other. I've thought about which one word that I will forevermore associate and attribute to my friend Peter...Benevolent.

Tears streaming down my cheeks, I cannot fathom the pain you are feeling. I want to turn the clock back. Tiny consolation is that every single time I think of Pete, I HEAR his deep, appreciative chuckle. It makes me smile. It makes me sob. It reminds me how unconditional his friendship is. It makes me feel like somehow he really is always around. Not good enough but there it is. I am so grateful to Dave and all of Pete's buddies for bringing him to me and to you: Diane and Pete's family for sharing him with us.
