Obituary of Roberta S Grieder

Grieder, Roberta Smith, known to her friends and family as “Bobbee,” passed away peacefully at her residence in Wyomissing, PA, on September 6, 2016. Formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, Bobbee was 94. Bobbee was born in Harrisburg, PA, graduated from Lemoyne High School, and received her nursing degree from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1943. Among other duties as a Registered Nurse, she practiced industrial nursing during World War II at a Westinghouse plant in South Philadelphia. After marrying Dr. Arthur Grieder and moving to New Jersey, she dedicated her life to charitable and volunteer work, serving in leadership positions with organizations such as The Women’s Club of Ridgewood, the Women’s Guild of the West Side Presbyterian Church, the Nurses’ Guild, and P.E.O. International. Bobbee sang with the choir of the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood for many years, then with the choir of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Shillington, PA. She enjoyed bridge and was an avid traveler. Bobbee’s husband of 48 years predeceased her. She is survived by her son, John, and his wife Katherine of Morristown, NJ, daughter Judy Tamburro of Franklin Lakes, NJ, son Dr. Thomas Grieder of Los Angeles, CA, grandson Daniel Tamburro of Milford, CT, granddaughter Zoe Grieder of Los Angeles, CA, a sister Carol Elder of York, PA, and many cousins and nieces. Her brother John E. Smith and sisters Mary Beebe and Dorothy Smith also predeceased her. Bobbee’s family extends its sincere gratitude to the nurses and aides at Heather Court at the Highlands of Wyomissing and to the caregivers at Heartland Hospice for their many acts of skill, kindness, and compassion. The family will receive family and friends on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 from 9:30-10:30am at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A Funeral Service will follow at 10:30am at the funeral home. The interment will take place at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift in remembrance to the Scholarship Trust Fund, Women’s Club of Ridgewood, 215 West Ridgewood Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 or The Highlands Memorial Fund, 2000 Cambridge Avenue, Wyomissing, PA 19610.
