Obituary of Helen Van Dyk

VAN DYK, HELEN (Hodel) age 87, of Hawthorne, died peacefully, on Saturday July 30, 2016. She was born in Hawthorne where she resided her entire life, most recently, a beloved resident of Van Dyk Park Place. Helen was a secretary for the Sicomac Dairy in Wyckoff, she attended the Grace Bible Church in North Haledon and was a former member of Hawthorne Gospel Church. Helen also loved being a homemaker, caring for her family. Surviving are her devoted children; William Van Dyk Jr., and his wife, Lynda, Glenn Van Dyk, and his wife, Henny, and Karen Hoogerhyde, and her husband, Duane. Helen also leaves eight adoring grandchildren; Stephanie, Jessica, Danielle, Jonathan, David, Maegan, Jayson, and Jordan, her six great grandchildren; Joey, Peyton, Benjamin, Easton, Jared, Jr., and Jonah, and her sister, Dorothy Hazen. She was predeceased by her husband William, her brother Al Hodel and her sister Catherine Galenkamp. Helen’s family is grateful to all her loving friends and staff at Van Dyk Park Place for the love and care shown towards their mother. Helen’s family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A Funeral Service in celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Grace Bible Church, 369 High Mountain Road, North Haledon, NJ 07508 with the interment to follow at Redeemer Cemetery, Mahwah. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen’s memory may be made to Grace Bible Church, Abiding Memorial Fund.
