Obituary of Norma M. Parsells

PARSELLS- Norma Margaret (nee Finnerty), currently of Allendale, New Jersey and Naples, Florida passed into eternal life on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. Norma was predeceased by her parents, James J. and Margaret (nee Quinn) Finnerty and by her brother, James Finnerty, who served in the Vietnam War. Most of all, she was a loving wife to George H., Jr. for 56 years and mother to George H. Parsells, III of Bernardsville and Katherine L. Bizub and her husband, Toby of Wyckoff; grandmother to Christina Mary and George H. Parsells IV, Thomas Joseph III, John Finnerty, Margaret Anne Bizub; her sister in law, Joyce Sullivan and her husband, William and aunt to William, Robert, Christopher Sullivan, Sandra Barnes and James, Michael, Teresa and Sean Finnerty. Norma was born in New York City. She graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine Grammar School and High School. After high school, Norma went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY. After college, she was employed by The National Industrial Conference Board, an economic research organization. She married during that time and moved to Schenectady, NY. After almost three years they moved to New Jersey where she and her husband, George, started GHP Insurance Center in Ramsey, New Jersey, where she worked until their retirement in 2004. Norma was a member of Hackensack Golf Club, Manchester (Vt.) Golf Club and The Strand Golf Club of Naples, Fla. During her spare time, she was very active in tennis, golf, bridge and over the years made many precious friends from those clubs with very fond memories. She especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play their sports. Most of all, Norma loved to travel throughout Europe. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Friday at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. (Please meet at Church.) Entombment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. Visitation on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ.
