Obituary of Joseph Navas
Joseph Navas, 87, of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 19, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He grew up in New York moved to River Edge and raised his family in Paramus, NJ. Joe was a Navy Veteran of World War II, he was an active member of the VFW. Before retiring he worked as a supervisor for the Port of Authority of NY/NJ for 34 years. Joe was a parishioner of St. Luke’s Church in Toms River. He was a former coach for the football, basketball and baseball league with the Paramus Recreation. He was an avid Yankee and Giant fan, loved golfing, playing the bass guitar and will be sorely missed. Joe was an irreplaceable center of our family, his legacy will live on through them.
He was predeceased by his son Joseph Michael Navas and his grandson Leonard Fariello. Beloved and cherished husband of 64 years to Rosemarie. Devoted father of Denise Cenicola, her husband Pat, Lisa LoPiccolo, her husband Victor and daughter-in-law Karen Navas. Loving grandfather of Joseph, Robert Cenicola, Jessica, Joseph and Justin Navas, Marisa , Victor, and Nicholas LoPiccolo. Cherished great-grandfather of Madeline Rose Cenicola. Dear brother of Lee Jenkins, Jenny Bemis, Fred Navas and his wife Jean, Robert Navas and his wife Sharon. Loved by many nieces, nephews.
The family will receive their friends on Monday, May 23, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home(vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in St. Gabriel’s Church, 88 East Saddle River Road, Saddle River. Entombment will be held on Wednesday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at the Ocean County Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1722 Silverton Road, Toms River, NJ.
