Obituary of Frederick Mabie

MABIE, Frederick James, Jr. "Fred" age 89, died peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2012 in Corona del Mar, CA where he had been a resident for the past year. Fred was born and raised in Waldwick and lived there his entire life before moving to Corona del Mar. He retired from N.J. Bell Telephone Co. following a distinguished 39 year career. Fred served during WWII in the United States Marine Corps, he was stationed in the Pacific, including landing on Okinawa. Fred was a skilled craftsman and over his lifetime built and worked on numerous homes in Bergen County. He was able to fix and repair anything and was always willing to do so for a long list of grateful family, friends and neighbors. Surviving are his devoted children, Donna Peters and her husband Rick, Valerie Dryka and her husband Ron, Nadine Mulvey and her husband Tom, and Frederick J. Mabie and his wife Lisa. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert and Donald Mabie, his 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Fred was pre-deceased by his brothers John Edward Mabie and Ken Mabie and his sister Gloria Mabie Durkin. A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 7th at the Valleau Cemetery in Ridgewood, NJ. Arrangements are by the Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff (www.vpfh.com).
