Obituary of Margaret M. McAvoy

McAvoy, Margaret M. (Peggy) age 95 of Wyckoff died Wednesday, April 13, 2016. Born in White Plains she lived most of her life in White Plains, before moving to Wyckoff, NJ two and one half years ago to live with her niece Mary Ellen and husband Denis McCarthy. Peggy had a life time career with New York Telephone Co., White Plains, NY before her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Peggy was an avid sports fan and would tell you with pride that it is because she had four brothers. She enjoyed being in football, basketball and baseball pools. That made it much more fun for her and those friends and family who joined with her. In 1946 she began going to Saratoga Racetrack, continuing this tradition up to and including her 95 year of life. She enjoyed all the family and friends in her life and told her aides, Chamain and Norma, how much she loved them. Peggy will be missed but is now reunited with her family once more. Peggy was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church, White Plains, NY. Peggy is survived by many nieces and nephews, Mary Ellen McCarthy, Evelyn Intermaggio, Margot Martin, Barbara Haganagh, Kathy McAvoy, Norah McAvoy, Marie Masi and Eileen McAvoy and nephews Joe, John, Jim, and Paul McAvoy. She also enjoyed time with her grand nieces and nephews and the liveliness and spirit of her great-grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Eileen (James) Quinn, and brothers: Joseph (Clair), twin brothers: John (Norah) and William (Kathy), and James (Betty Ann) McAvoy, and niece, Patricia McAvoy and nephew William McAvoy. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ from 2-5 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday 10 am at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ. Interment, Mount Calvary Cemetery, 575 W. Hillside Ave. White Plains, NY.
