Obituary of Elmer Hymen

Hymen,Elmer, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Born and raised in Midland Park he remained a lifelong resident. Elmer served in the U.S. Army during WWII, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a long time member of the Midland Park United Methodist Church and co-founder and forty year member of the Hudson Valley Hornets in Modena, NY. In 1958, Elmer obtained his pilot’s license, built two experimental aircraft and enjoyed flying with his family and friends. He was an amateur painter, and took up golf at 85. In 1988, Elmer retired from United Sheet Metal Union Local in Hackensack where he was employed as a sheet metal mechanic. Elmer is survived by his children: William E. Hymen and his wife Renee of Ramsey, and Janet Paul of Jupiter, FL; his granddaughter, Sharon-Leigh Ricker and a great grandson Nathaniel Noack. He was predeceased by his wife Mathilda and his brothers, Walter, Martin and Leonard. Visitation will be on Monday, April 4th from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, April 5th at 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07652.
