Obituary of Charles A. Sheridan

Charles A. Sheridan June 8, 1931- January 22, 2016 Born in the Bronx, NY to Charles and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Sheridan. Upon graduation from Power Memorial High School in 1949 he enlisted and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War where he achieved the rank of staff sergeant and received numerous accommodations. He married Dorothy (Goff) on January 3, 1953. They relocated from the Bronx in 1970 to raise their six children in Glen Rock, NJ. Charlie was an active member of St. Catharine Parish. He volunteered at the Ridgewood Valley Hospital as a Eucharistic minister for close to thirty years. He worked at Western Union and Metro North Railroad. He also held several part-time jobs as a security guard and crossing guard to help support his family. Upon retirement, he was the van driver for West Bergen Mental Healthcare for ten years. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy on December 8th, 2014, and leaves behind a large family including his loving daughter Carol Anne Toro and her husband Gary and their children Luke, Liam, and Jenna. Dorothy and husband Tom Keenan and their children Devon and Matthew. Marie and husband Gary Aramini and their children Christine, Catherine and Gary. And Charles P. Sheridan and his wife Donna. Charlie possessed a quick wit, excellent sense of humor and Irish charm. He was hard-working and loved by all. “Be well and stay well. All the best”. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 26th, from 5-9pm at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 27th at 9:30am at St. Catharine’s R.C. Church, 905 South Maple Ave., Glen Rock, NJ, 07452. Interment to follow at Maryrest Cemetery, 25 Seminary Road, Mahwah, NJ 07430. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles’ memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675.
