Obituary of Richard W. Eiden

Eiden, Richard W., age 66, of Wyckoff, died on Monday, January 18th, 2016. Richard was born in New York City and lived in Valley Stream and Ossining, NY before moving to Wyckoff 30 years ago. He received his BS in Engineering Science for Hofstra University in 1971, and has an MBA from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University. He is also a Professional Engineer. Richard was the Manager of Sustainable Design for the NYC School Construction Authority from 2008 to the present. Before that, he was Vice president of DVL Consulting Engineers, Inc. for 2 years. From 1999 to 2006, Richard was president and owner of Richard Eiden Associates and Garden State Controls in W. Paterson, NJ, specializing in Automatic Temperature Controls and building automation. He was also a part time professor at NYU School of Continuing Education and at Fairleigh Dickenson University. A former President of the NYC Chapter of ASHRAE, Richard was very active in many organizations including the US Green Building Council and The Association of Energy Engineers. He was also an avid photographer and singer, and a member of the New Jersey Choral Society for many years. He and his wife loved traveling, and the NJCS provided many opportunities to sing around the globe. He was a member of Advent Lutheran Church, in Wyckoff and enjoyed singing in the choir. He is survived by his loving wife, Jody, and his two daughters, Patricia Eiden of Chicago, IL, and Julie Pantello and her husband, Drew, of Wyckoff, NJ. Also surviving are his three grandchildren, Savannah Van Rensburg, George Pantello, Kate Pantello, his two sisters, Janice Steeves and Virginia Ciavarella, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Karin Eiden. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 21st from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Friday, January 22nd at 10am at Advent Lutheran Church, 777 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory can be made to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087.
