Obituary of Mary Pender
PENDER, Mrs. Mary P. (Kingsley), 85, of Salem, NH and formerly of Waldwick, NJ., died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, her 59th wedding anniversary, at Merrimack NH Community Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family and following a long illness. Born in Englewood, NJ, daughter of the late George and Frances (Lyons) Kingsley, and raised in Bogota, NJ, she attended local schools. She was a member of the Class of 1940 of St. Elizabeth's Academy in Convent Station, NJ and graduated from The Katherine Gibbs School in New York City. As a young woman, Mary worked in public relations for Rockefeller Center and later worked at Hudson City Bank. A resident of Waldwick, NJ for 42 years before moving to Salem in 2003, she was an active member of St. Luke's Parish of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ where she served as head usher and on several other committees and societies including the Rosary Society. She also was a longtime member of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary in Ridgewood and served for several years as the treasurer. Mary enjoyed dancing, swimming, reading and playing bridge, cards and
board games. Her greatest enjoyment and satisfaction came from creating a warm and loving atmosphere for her family and friends to gather. Mary's purpose in life was realized in seeing her family together and happy. She is survived by her husband Edmund L. Pender, four daughters, Mary Lee Greaves and her husband Russell, of Spofford, NH, Kathleen A. Eid of Danville, NH, Joan K. Lofgren and her husband Alfred of Kittery Point, ME, and Laurie J. Sweetser and her husband Richard of Windham, NH, nine grandchildren, two great-grand-daughters, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Carol F. Pender in 1983 and her three brothers, Howard, Thomas and Francis Kingsley and son-in-law, Fred Eid in 2007. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, September 20, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main ST., Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, September 24, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke's Church, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. Internment will follow in Mary Rest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Luke's Church, 340 N. Franklin Tpke, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423.
