Obituary of Ruth M. Beglin

Ruth M. Beglin passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease on Monday, November 9th, 2015. Ruth was born Ruth Matilda Wentisch on December 16, 1927 in Holtsville, NY to Grace Mae Terry and William A. Wentisch. Ruth was a long-time resident of Upper Saddle River, Mahwah and Pompton Plains, NJ. She graduated from the University of Toledo in 1949 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and was married to John L. Beglin from 1951 until his passing in 1974. Prior to her illness, Ruth was a long-time volunteer at Kurth Cottage at Valley Hospital and a member of the West Side Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, visiting her grandchildren, Broadway plays and musicals, traveling, bird-watching and eating chocolate ice cream. She passed on her ice cream loving genes to her entire family. She is survived by her five children: Lawrence J. Beglin (Laura) of Monmouth Beach, NJ, Thomas W. Beglin of Tucson, AZ, Elizabeth A. Beglin (Pam Lee) of North Liberty, IA, Laura J. Cochran (Frank) of West Milford, NJ and James J. Beglin (Joanne) of Clifton, NJ. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren: Katherine L. Kelly (Jeremy), Christopher J. Beglin, Melissa L. Wellema (Andy), Megan J. Cochran (Max Friend), Sean R. Cochran, Amy R. Cochran and Lauren J. Beglin and five great-grandchildren; Emma, Eli, McKenna, Brielle and Dean. She is also survived by her dear sister Esther Gauthier, lovingly known as “Gussie”, and her husband, Roland, of Susan, VA as well as her nieces and nephew. We shall all miss her. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 13th from 5-8 pm at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff, NJ. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, November 14th at 11am at West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe St., Ridgewood, NJ. Interment will take place at the Old Stone Church Cemetery in Upper Saddle River, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Valley Hospital Foundation, 223 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450, West Side Presbyterian Church, 6 South Monroe Street, Ridgewood, NJ 07450 or the Alzheimer’s Association Greater NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Cedar Crest Village for their exceptional care and kindness to Ruthie.
