Obituary of Concordia L Montick

Montick, Concordia Johanna (Leinninger), affectionately known as “Cordie”, age 93 of Glen Rock, and Lake Iosco, Bloomingdale, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on September 24, 2015. Born July 1, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the beloved daughter of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Claupin) Leinninger. At a young age, Cordie and her family moved to Glen Rock, where she has resided for the past 88 years. The family has summered at their home on Lake Iosco, for the past 55 years. Cordie was the beloved wife of the late Alfred J. (Fritz) Montick, to whom she was married for 57 years. Cordie is survived by her children, son Bill and wife Isabel, of Verona, and daughter Shirley and husband Frank, of Pompton Lakes, along with three grandchildren, Allison Montick, Andrew Montick, Scott McCabe, and one great grandchild, Holly Montick. She is also survived by her sister Ruth DeVries and husband Frank, of Glen Mills, PA. Cordie is also survived by a wide community of loving and caring friends. Towards the end of her life, in addition to family and friends, Cordie was attended to by many loving caregivers. Cordie was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and Ridgewood Secretarial School. Cordie was an educational secretary with the Glen Rock Public Schools for twenty-seven years, working first at Glen Rock High School, and then from the time it was first opened, as the secretary for the Clara E. Coleman Elementary School. She was a past President of the Glen Rock Association of Educational Secretaries, and an active member of BCAES and NJAES. In 1970, Cordie was inducted as NJAES President, a position of which she was most proud. She was a life member of NJREA, and held the position of BCREA membership chairperson for many years following her own retirement. She was an active, devoted and lifelong member of the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ridgewood, NJ, which she considered her home away from home. She was honored and acknowledged by the Church many times for her valuable contributions. Two programs, of which she was most proud in helping to establish were Bethlehem's Lutheran Braille Workshop, and the Japanese Culture Program. Cordie was also, at one time, involved in teaching Sunday School, and until recently, was an active member of the Bethlehem OWLS. She was involved in many charity endeavors, such as crocheting lap robes for the infirmed and knitting mittens, hats and booties for those in need. Cordie was a truly vibrant, talented and dynamic person who gave freely of herself to others. She enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchild and days spent at the family lake house. A memorial service to celebrate Concordia's life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 17, 2015, at the Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 155 Linwood Ave. Ridgewood, NJ.
