Obituary of George Saterson

Saterson, George of Ridgewood died September 20. He was 86. George was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 14, 1925 to immigrants from Greece, Chresa Andrikedes and Constantine Saterson (originally Sotiropoulos). Growing up on Gerritsen Beach in Brooklyn during the depression, George developed a love of sailing and a strong work ethic that became the core of his legacy to his 5 children. George's service in the US Navy Air Corps from 1943 to 1947 included training in North Carolina, Florida and New York. In 1948 he received his BA in mechanical engineering from City College in NY. George then spent 17 years working for US Gypsum in various positions including plant and management positions in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas and Georgia. George joined Litton Industries in 1967 as VP of Manufacturing for Kimball Systems in New Jersey and was later promoted to President. He was then President of Sweda and became a Litton corporate VP in 1977. George became Chief Operating Officer of Docutel, an early ATM business, in Dallas Texas. He was President of several businesses in Irvine and Santa Clara California from 1983 until his retirement from Dastek in the late 1990's. George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Athena Saterson of Ridgewood; Five children, Constantine and wife Nancy of San Diego CA, George and wife Mary Kay of Brooklyn NY, Kathryn of Durham NC, Chrysanthe of San Jose CA and Anastasia and husband Cliff of New York NY; and 3 grandchildren, Michael, Catherine and Maya. A direct, kind and giving man, George is remembered as a wonderful mentor by many colleagues from his professional life, and as a loving, humorous and supportive father, grandfather and friend. Visitation will be held at Olthuis Funeral Home, www.othuisfuneralhome.com 159 Godwin Ave. Midland Park from 6 - 9 PM on Thursday September 22nd. The Funeral Service will be at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Ave. Wyckoff, NJ on Friday September 23rd at 11:00 am. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Maspeth, NY.
