Obituary of William Dykstra

DYKSTRA, William age 86, died peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Van Dyk's Manor Nursing Home in Ridgewood. Bill was born in Fair Lawn on January 19, 1925, he was a 45 year resident of North Haledon. Bill was a Civil Engineer with Pike Construction in Paterson for 30 years before his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff where he served as a deacon. During World War II, Bill served his country in the United States Navy. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Helena (nee Uelen), his devoted children, Helena and her husband Gary Veurink of Spring Lake, MI, William, Jr. and his wife Melissa of Cherry Hill, NJ, Linda and her husband Douglas VerHill of Murrysville, PA and Robert and his wife Laura of North Haledon. Bill also leaves his 14 adoring grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 am at the Faith Community Christian Reformed Church, 530 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff. Interment will follow in the Wyckoff Reformed Church Cemetery. Visiting is Tuesday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Avenue, North Haledon, NJ 07508.
