I remember the teenager. Tall and straight. You said you were shy,but I never felt your reticence. There were no awkward moments between us. Of course the years passed and then in July we were back again! It was as if no time had passed at all. As though we had just seen each other in the "halls" the other day. Thus began our two years of phone calls. Each of us "stuck" in our present lives but always ,somehow, connected. I have never experienced such kindness, caring and compassion;all given without a plea. You always just knew the right thing to say. Even when we disagreed during our more intellectual conversations;we shared a mutual respect which permitted retreat to our own separate corners of thought. You were a dear man who has touched my life more than you would ever know or believe. Rest well, dear friend. You would say that you have gone on to a better "place". Perhaps you have. You will forever reside in my heart without knowing of the gaping wound your passing has left in that cursed muscle of passion and pain. Sleep well ,sweet friend Goodnight, "George". Judi

Andy and I reconnected recently as others have through Facebook. We were making plans to see each other next week when I was in New Jersey. I met Andy early in our freshman year at F&M. It always amazed me how he was able to know exactly how much work he needed to do to get a certain grade in a class. Somehow he convinced me to type his papers or maybe I offered as I worried so that he would not get the paper in on time and therefore not pass. Turns out I have a son just like Andy in this way and I often thought of Andy as I was typing Peter's papers in high school. Andy, as he recently wrote to me, found "homeless co-eds" places to stay when they returned to F&M. In my case it was on my return from a semester in London in our senior year. The last email I received from him was on 8/23 when he told me he slept through the earthquake.

Andy spoke so highly of his daughters when we spoke recently. He was so proud of you both. His death is a reminder to me of how fragile life is and how we should not wait to connect with friends and to keep in touch more closely. I will miss him and the opportunity to continue our friendship. You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of such a fine man.

Only last month, I re-connected with Andy through Facebook and the THS '70 group. I had posted that I suffered the loss of my home and my daughter in January 2011 due to fire, and I wished I had a copy of the 'Highwaymen '70' yearbook to compare 'then and now' pictures. The very next day, I received a very kind note from Andy, and he asked for my address to send me a copy. Imagine my surprise when I received not only a copy of our HS yearbook, but also a copy of his personal TJ Junior High yearbook! What a sweet gesture, and I am so sorry to read of his passing. My condolences to his family and also his friends.

1973: So there I was. . . in the registration line at F&M after taking a semester off. (You, young folks today have never had to deal with a registration line, thanks to computers) So I finally get to the front of the line and something was wrong and I was sent to the back of the line. Huge 2 hour delay, over something idiotic! I was so angry, that I was going to leave. . . just storming out. . . couldn't handle the frustration. As I am leaving, I run into good old Andy. . . Cool calm and collected. He sees immediately that I am upset and asks me what is going on. I tell Andy my "woes", and he calmly walks me thru the line to register, approaches the very same people who were "stonewalling" me moments ago, explains things, and VOILA! Typical Andy. Always there for anyone, and an ace at getting things done!

Sending our deepest sympathy and thoughts to all of you at this sad time. Andy didn't have a bad bone in his body, known by anybody lucky enough to be his friend. You should gain comfort in knowing the positive impact he had on so many of us growing up with him in Teaneck. He will be missed but not forgotten. All our love, Jodie and Alan Gold

Since Caitlin moved back home to New Jersey I visited her frequently and every time I went I stood with her and Andy and he was the sweetest man! He always made sure we were well fed and his hospitality was endeavouring. I loved the bobble heads he would give us and all the nick nacks he gave and really enjoying sitting at the table and listening to all the stories he had. Caitlin and Nicole are the luckiest girls to have a father like Andy. He had a heart of gold. My condolences go out to my best friend Caitlin and her sister Nicole. I LOVE YOU BOTH VERY MUCH! I am here for you and for everyone else that loved Andy. He will always remain as this great happy person in my heart.

i first met andy when i worked in the deli at kings supermarket. I found out he was diabetic and tried to help by telling him what foods were good for him. In the time of meeting him he told me about his two daughters and how he moved from teaneck. It was two more years that i ran into him again only to find out that one of his daughters would soon brought into our family. I saw him at xmas and some partys...he always had a smile and he was always concerned about how i was doing as i was for him. He was one outstanding person and im honored to have gotten to know him. Pest peacefully andy you are missed.

I have so many wonderful memories of Andy since we became good friends sophomore year of high school. Andy really cared about his Teaneck friends, as demonstrated by his way of pulling everyone together and staying in touch.
A couple of funny stories stand out.....Andy in history class with Mr. Coniglio (sp.?).
Andy was much smarter than Mr. C. and was always correcting him in class.
We would just laugh about it all the time.
Andy was great friends with Jimmy Scanapico and I can remember some fun get togethers at Jimmy's house with Andy and Rita.
Andy was also very close to my family and actually stayed in touch with my parents!
I am very sad for Andy's family and for all of us who will miss Andy so much.
My heartfelt sympathy to Nicole and Caitlin!
Love,
Lynn (Spath-Sullivan)

Andy, we are so devastated by your loss. I don't know what we are going to do without you. You were such a wonderful friend and neighbor...always being there for each other. You were one of the kindest people we knew...always offering to help in any way. I don't think a day went by that we didn't give a wave or talk about something. You've become a daily part of our lives and life will never be the same. The comfort we have is knowing that you're in a better place. It will only be a matter of time until we are all together again. Caitlin and Nicole, we are so sorry for your loss and are here if you need us.

Andy and I shared many childhood memories. We went to Lowell Elementary School together, played at each other's houses, and hung out at Phelps Park with Bruce Barone, Bonnie Litwin, and Debbie Feingold. Even as a little boy, he always had a big smile and was loved by everyone. I will so miss seeing him at our reunions! I am deeply saddened that he is no longer with us.

No matter when I saw Andy, usually at one of our many High School reunions, he would always call me by my junior high nickname, feifer and give me a big hug. And then we'd get around to talking about the World History class we took sophomore year with Mr. Breich, who terrified us. He was a sweet guy.

My memory of Andy is that of a tall, very friendly person. He always would say "hello" to me in the halls of TJJrHS, or THS.When I was working on our 30th and 40th High School Reunion, Andy was very, very helpful in finding our classmates and forwarding information to me. A funny memory of Andy was just last year during the preparation for our 40th reunion, when he called me at home and left a message, "Hi Sharon, Hi Mr. Wolff(our former JrHS Teacher, and my husband). A gentlemen and all around nice guy.

I am so sorry for your loss. Andy was a great friend to so many...he was the one person who worked so hard to keep in touch individually and as the "Class of '70". I remember sitting in TJ, German class with Herr Nussbaum...the fire alarm rang and being new to the country and not aware of the protocol, he told us all to jump out the window! but we were on the second floor! Andy and I sat next to each other and we roared with laughter. Andy will always be a wonderful memory of friendship and an inspiration to keep the spirit of our class together! He will be missed by all that knew him. Carolyn

Take comfort in knowing that when he took his last breath here on earth, his next breath was in Heaven and he has seen the Face of Jesus. He is now safe in His Arms.
