Obituary of Charles Van Dyk

Van Dyk, Charles J., Sr., age 99, of Midland Park, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. He had been a resident of Wyckoff before moving to Midland Park 24 years ago. He was a butcher for Tony's Quality Meat in Wyckoff for 4 years before retiring in 1997. Prior he worked for the Market Basket and Van Dyk's Market, Paterson. Charles attended Cornerstone Christian Church, Wyckoff. He is survived by a son and his wife, Charles II and Katherine Van Dyk of Midland Park, NJ, his daughter and her husband, Shirley and Walter Piakowski of Toms River, NJ. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Charles Van Dyk III and his wife, Bonnie, Barry Van Dyk and his wife, Diane, Brenda Francois and her husband, Rene, Cathleen Farrand and her husband, David and Richie Vander Ploeg and his wife, Ann. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by his wife, Catherine (nee Vander Hook) in 2004 and his brother, Barney Van Dyk in 2009. Visiting hours will be held Sunday 2 - 5 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Funeral Service Monday, 10:30 AM at the funeral home followed by the interment in Fair Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fair Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles' memory may be made to Christian Health Care Center Foundation, 301 Sicomac Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481 or Cornerstone Christian Church, 495 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
