Dear Mrs. Buchner, Amy, Kate and the extended family, I had the privilege of working with Ed, and was very sad to hear of his passing. He was a man who respected his fellow workers and was a pleasure to work with. He will be missed. At this time, I hope and pray that may God grant you all the strength to overcome this great loss, and that May Ed's soul rest in eternal peace. Amen. With my deepest sympathy, Alkarim Haji,

I have very fond memories of Ed. Back in the 70s at St. Francis in Astoria, he took me, Joe Peri, Frank LaRosa and the brothers Jimmy and Joey on numerous camping trips. We always had a good time. He was more than a friend on those trips. He was a big brother to all of us. He was kind and lots of fun to be with. Ed, thanks for all of those memories which will stay with me forever. Love always!

To Eddy's family... You do not know me but my friends and I knew Eddy many years ago from St. Francis. We met him through the Youth Group there and also through the Theater Group (He was a big hit as the producer in Plaza Suite!). My friends and I were 6 years his junior but he treated us like any of his pals. We all shared a passion for camping and Eddy, having that old beat up Chevy Nova (and I seem to remember a Monte Carlo too), had us all pile into it and off we would go to Harriman State Park for weekend jaunts under the stars. Once I came up with the brilliant idea to go to the Adirondacks during Easter week in April for a "real outdoor experience". Well...who knew it could snow 18 inches in the Adirondack mountains in one night...in April. Frozen and soaked...Eddy took charge and we wound up having pancakes at a nearby diner and then spent the second night of our "expedition" sleeping in a motel room. What a time we had. So to Eddy's family...I hope it brings you some solace in knowing that he was a role model and friend to me and my friends many years ago. He was an easy person to be with and though I haven't seen him in many years, I really miss him. God Bless you Eddy. Have the campfire burning up there because I'm going to visit you when I get there.

I always was happy to see Ed in the pit playing for the Somerville Children's Theatre....just fit his personality - happy to be playing, enjoying being with the musicians, and supporting the kids for a good cause...I saw Ed in October when he came by Motorcycle Fundraiser at the office - he was looking pretty good and was optimistic as always. We were all so sad to hear that he lost his battle....will be thinking about him for sure!

Betsy, I need to speak my thoughts and feelings directly to you, and I will do so when you are a bit past these very difficult early days. You will find my son’s entry in the visitor’s register. Brad asked to stand for me at Ed’s service. Later he called to recount the considerable gathering, the coincident laughter and tears of so many in attendance, of the wonderful images of Ed displayed to remind his friends of the times they spent with him, and of the tributes made by his friends and, specifically, by his eldest daughter; Brad was particularly struck by Amy’s warmth, “Ed-like” humor and respect for her Dad. I regret that I was not there. I loved Ed. There were times when he carried the heavy weight when we worked together;and he was so often my champion. Now, I love and cherish his memory, as clearly do so many.

I was so sad to hear of Ed's passing. I have so many memories from the Hawes and Dad's Night days, and all of them seem to have a smiling Ed Buchner in them somewhere. Such a talented musician, such a friendly man, such a devoted husband and father! He will be missed... Betsy, Amy and Kate, please accept my most sincere condolences.

Ed was a really fantastic guy. Always had a smile, easy going and fun to talk with. As you all know... he had a great talent for music and a love for the bass guitar and he enthuastically shared his talents willingly with many local organizations and musical groups. I will forever have an image of Ed playing bass with that pony tail wig. What a great sense of humor. While the bass clef has lost a note... the sound will sustain with many fond memories. Rest in peace Ed. -Tim Whiting

Back in'08 I had the the great pleasure of working with Ed as we prepared for a presentation at the Anaheim Convention Center. We were highlighting online music collaboration software...real time playing with a far-away musician. During the soundcheck, Ed picked up his guitar and blew me away. That genial man in business attire could rock! What a wonderful surprise. I wanted to get to know him better and was sad that he and Mark had to head back to the East Coast right away. Sometimes fleeting experiences leave indelible memories of rich moments and feelings that never fade. Rest in peace, Ed. You will be missed by many many people.

Ed was a true gentle man. One of many his strengths was his ability to reach out to everyone in his life, to add postively to the lives of those who had the good fortune know him. His humor and good sense melted away even the most vexing situations that he, or his colleagues, faced. He is sorely missed.

Ed was a wonderful husband, father, friend and co-worker. I will miss his cheery 'hey kiddo' greeting I received with every phone call. Ed was one of those everyday heroes who never made the news but made a difference. I am so distressed over his abrupt, untimely and unjust loss. The only consolation is he died without pain and at peace. As we all try to pick up the pieces I can only hope to capture a piece of his humor and spirit so he will live on through all of us.
I will miss you so much my friend. Good night :(

My daughters, Kate and Maggie, and I will forever cherish the times spent with Ed, Kate and Amy. As Dads we shared many adventures - from hiking in Harriman State Park, to sharing a pancake breakfast at The Daily Treat. (To this day, Kate and Maggie still cut their pancakes as Ed taught them.) Ed, with his impish grin, was always ready to have fun with his daughters and their friends. The Zayko family was the beneficiary of his friendship, his jokes, his stories, and most of all, his love of life. We extend our love and prayers to Betsy, Kate and Amy.

Betsy, Amy and Kate, I am so heart broken to hear of passing of your beloved husband and father. I worked with your dad while at Siemens from 2000 through 2003 and also grew to love him and his wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude. We stayed in touch over these last several years and he always had a good story to tell and incredible words of encouragement to me as friend. I will deeply miss him and extend to you all my sincerest sympathy. He loved you all so much and was so proud of you. My heart goes out to you. I I am sorry I cannot be there in person... Sincerely, Christine Hartranft Bifera

Buchner 'girls', While we have never met in person I feel like I know each of you. Ed and I have been friends and colleagues for quite some time. I suspect our IBM and telecomm heritage gave us a lot in common. Anyway he loved all of you so much, which I am sure you knew. What you may not have known is how much we all loved him. He was always one to find the silver lining in the cloud and I suspect even tonite he could find a way to make us laugh. While we can't begin to imagine your pain, please know that his presence and loss will be felt in a million places and a million different ways. He will not be forgotten. We are all better for having had him in our lives no matter how short the time. Mary Alice

I liked Ed from the moment I met him at Siemens years ago. We laughed through our first meeting, we laughed through our subsequent meetings, we laughed through the time we worked together after hiring him. We laughed through challenges big and small. But don't let that fool you -- Ed was a pro and got things done. He just had the unique gift to lead and contribute with confidence, a positive outlook and laughter. Initially Ed was someone I'd proudly call colleague. Because of his experience and honesty he became my trusted confidant. But most importantly Ed became someone who I became humbled to know as a dear friend. I miss you my friend.

Always with a ready smile and a great story. Three of us traveled to Michigan via Canada to attend a friend's wedding. Of course, the border patrol took one look at us and detained us while they thoroughly searched the car ! Ed thought it was hysterical !! Me, not so much at the time. On another occasion, a group of us were up at his Mom's house sitting around the dining room table. Someone had left the front door unlocked and a drunk man wandered upstairs ! Ed very casually included him in the rambling conversation and charmingly escorted him downstairs and back out onto the street ! Ed will be truly missed. This is a very sad day.

I played sax with Ed in many bands over the years...in Jamboree and elsewhere. My heart is so heavy today. Ed was one of the kindest, generous, and most unselfish men I've had the pleasure to know. He was also a very talented musician and always gave off good karma. We lost one of the good ones today. I will miss him.

Betsy and girls, I am deeply saddened at the passing of Ed. We shared many things over the years, including a love of music and some health challenges. When I mentioned this to my children, they were also saddened and so complimentary of his affable and upbeat personality. Ed has been a friend for so many years, and we shared many musical memories together. His service to his community and friends was outstanding. There should be more like him. I will miss him and the memories of Ridgewood we shared for many years. God Bless you and your family and may he rest in peace with the music and song of angels. Jim Roth

Dear Betsy, This is a very sad day, Ed was a special person and friend who I will never forget. Although we lived far apart the last couple of years, every time we talked or emailed, it was a brighter day. Laughing and joy came easy to Ed, and he brought that to everyone he knew. Please send my best to Kate and Amy, they were the light in his life. He loved to tell me how they were doing and how proud he was of them. He brought so much laughter to my life and I am thankful he was my friend.

I was so sad to hear that Ed died. He was a kind and generous man and he gave of his talent and time to Ridgewood. I first met Ed in the mid 1990's when he volunteered to serve on the district's technology committee. I knew little about technology and Ed would take the time to explain things to me. When it came time for Jamboree, I could always count on a smile from the pit where Ed sat watching and playing his music. He will be missed.
