Obituary of James Mahometa

James William Mahometa "Jim", age 86 of Wyckoff, died on Thursday, June 28, 2007. Jim was a vehicle maintenance clerk with the U. S. Postal Service, Fair Lawn. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church of Wyckoff where he ushered at Sunday Mass, was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the seniors club. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served aboard the U.S.S. Lexington CV16 during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 7086 of Wyckoff and Midland Park the American Legion of Midland Park and he volunteered in the NJ Veteran's Memorial Home of Paramus. He was Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America Troop 89 and most recently served on their council as a charter representative. He volunteered in the Blood Bank and was a member of Partners in Pride and Wyckoff Senior Citizen's Club. Survived by his beloved wife Jane (nee Piekarz) of 62 wonderful years, his son James, II and wife Edy of Winston Salem, NC and his sister Marie Galacki of Totowa. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff.
