Obituary of Eugene Kirk
KIRK
Eugene B., of Midland Park and formerly of Dumont, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
Eugene was born in Bronx, NY and lived there until 1962 when he, his wife Helen and daughter Theresa moved to Dumont. He had worked for the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in Manhattan, NY for 25 years. It was in the NAM where he met his wife Helen. They were married for 49 years. Following retirement, Eugene took a job as a school crossing guard in Dumont. His post was at Seltzer School and he held it for 19 years until retiring at age 84. He lived his last five and a half years, happily, at Mill Gardens Assisted Living in Midland Park. He was a parishioner of Church of the Nativity, Midland Park where he was known as the "Tootsie Roll Man" because he always had a tootsie roll for the children of the parish.
Eugene is survived by his dear daughter Theresa Kirk Durie who resides in Carluke, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK.
Following private cremation, a Memorial Mass will take place on Wednesday, 3:30 PM at Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect St. Midland Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005, would be appreciated.
