I'm sorry to hear about the death of Uncle Paul. He lived longer than my dad ( Sylvester Hanas died at age 94) and it looks like he still had a full head of hair! I'm thinking there's a longevity gene in the family...at least I hope there is. I live in Plano,Texas, and have one son, Michael, who will graduate from college ( Stephen F. Austin State University) in four weeks. My dad would not have been happy that the Texas Rangers beat his beloved NY Yankees...

Mr. Hanas was the true definition of the word gentleman. I knew him as a teen-ager, and maybe he was a little strict, but he got respect from his children and all that knew him. As the years went by I did not see him until Lilian would come east for her annual visits and I would go to the house to pick her up for our 4-hour or so lunches. He would answer the door and invite me in to sit and talk before we left. He always inquired about my family and, of course, my husband Hank who knew Mr. Hanas since childhood. Hank always spoke highly of him and of his athletic ability, especially basketball. He was also an excellent bowler and could play a "mean" game of pool. I will always remember Mr. Hanas riding his bicycle around town, something I never would have done, but I think he was fearless in that regard. We will miss him and will never forget him. He has left a wonderful family but they have all those great memories to relive. Our thoughts and prayers are sent to the family. Nancy & Hank Degenaars

Uncle Paul has been a pleasant memory to me. I always enjoyed his visits with his family to our farm in Pennsylvania. I am happy to hear from his daughter, Lillian, concerning his whereabouts and doings. I trust he is at peace with his Maker. Sincerely, Jonetta

I remember "Mr. Hanas", as I called him, as a strong, thin, tall and good looking man. And the Dad of my friend, Lillian. He was quiet, but when he looked at you, you knew it. I believe I saw him smile once. When you walked into the house on 84 Hillside Dr., he would be sitting in the living room in complete charge of his household. I could not get upstairs to Lillian's room fast enough. But this quiet man was full of love for his family. I envied Lillian having such a great Father. A legend is gone...nancy

So many memories with grandpa, he was one of kind! The best memories are of the summers we spent with grandma & grandpa - swinging on the front porch with him, the dance shows Alisha, Tami & I did for them, and he was always ready to show us off to his friends when grandma brought us to the Senior Center. I could go on forever! He was respected by so many & will be missed by all. Although my heart is in pain I know he is not in pain & is now at peace. Miss you & Love you forever, Candi

I know my grandfather is now spending eternity with the light of his life. We will miss him very much here and are sad for our loss. But what a wonderful long and fulfilling life he led. I can still hear him recounting the stories of his life. We will miss you grandpa Hanas.

We thank everyone for their kind messages. Our dad's 97-year life saw changes he never could have imagined as a boy born on a farm in Pennsylvania, originally built by a Civil War soldier. His education from a classic one-room rural school house was good enough to help him graduate from high school at age sixteen. He was a great story teller and left us with a wealth of stories I hope to capture in writing for his future generations. Anything you would like to share will be appreciated. Lillian
