Obituary of Darwin Ley

LEY, Darwin M., 92, of Ridgewood died March 26, 2011. Born in New York City, the eldest of 4 boys, he grew up in Germany and Westfield, NJ. He graduated from Princeton University in 1940, Harvard Business School in 1943, and entered the army as a 1st Lieutenant serving in Europe during WW II. His career in financial services was with Ford Motor Co. (in Michigan) and Johnson & Higgins (in New York City), where he retired in 1983 as Vice President. Darwin moved to Ridgewood in 1965, and in his retirement years spent summers at Lake St. Catharine in Vermont. He was an active member of West Side Presbyterian Church and The Hobbyists. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty; his son Peter (wife Janet) of New York City; his daughter Anne Jensen (husband Brian) of West Milford, NJ; and his daughter Jennifer Ley (husband Gert Larsen) of New York City; and his 6 grandchildren: Sarah, Josh, and Rachel Jensen, and Carter, Henry and Lucille Ley. Also surviving is brother Robert of Westfield and 14 nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 9, at 11:00 a.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church (6 South Monroe Street, Ridgewood). Goheen Class of 1940 Scholarship."
