I would sit on my porch and watch Ed on his tractor with his big straw hat. Those mowing lines had to be straight and he always did a fine job. Ed would stop and chat with me for about 1/2 hour and get right back to work, I always admired his energy and spunk.I will miss the Mayor of Meadow Ridge Road,(thats what I called him), he always stood up for what was right. Ed died on the same day as my Dad did, and I know he will meet a great friend up there. He was a great neighbor and I sadly, will miss him.

I first met Ed about 20 years ago through his son Ed, who was my first boss and long time friend. The three of us became hunting friends and regularly got together in the Fall for pheasant hunting.
I could not keep up withe Ed Sr.! He was a man on a mission. Hunting would start at first light and we would be walking around in the cold going through the woods, fields, hills, etc. By mid morning most hunters had gone home because the easy birds were gone. But not Ed! I myself would be thinking how great it would be to go back to the car and get coffee and a doughnut. But Ed Sr. would be saying "Let's go work that ridgeline up there!" And I would be thinking, "Where does he get that energy? This guy is 25 years older than me and he is kicking my butt with energy and determination." Ed set the standard for active seniors. I hope I can do some of the same.
About five years ago I lost interest in the actual hunting but didn't want to miss out on seeing Ed and Ed and walking through the Fall woods with them. So I would come without a gun and walk and talk with them. The first year I did this we got stopped by the game warden who saw my hunting vest, no license, and no gun. He was sure I was hunting without a license and had thrown my gun away when I saw him so I wouldn't be caught. He gave us a really hard time, made us stay there while he searched the area and then had to let us go because he couldn't find my gun.
Anyway, the next year. Ed was by himself one time and he ran into the same game warden. The warden's face got red and he said" "You're the guy who's friend hid his gun!!!" Ed stood up for me, talked to the guy and eventually won him over as a friend.
I will miss Ed greatly. I admired a lot about him--his love of the outdoors, his ability to work with his hands, his 64 year marriage to beautiful Irene and his spunk.
It will be different this Fall without him but I feel so lucky to have been part of his great life.

Irene and family, Please accept my sympathy for your lose. Ed and I go back many years. I will never forget running out of church with Ed, getting into his car and responding to a fire alarm. Though I have not seen Ed and Irene for several years, I do not forget the times at church and being at the house. My prayers go out to the family.

When I was seven, I spent 6 weeks in Wycoff with G & G. I loved having Wheaties for breakfast with Grandpa and always having dessert after dinner. I also loved that he said prayers before dinner, but I never understood a word... except the "Amen". :) Another great memory was getting the dollhouse he made for us one Christmas.

Dave and I visited grandma and grandpa while we were on our honeymoon 10.5 years ago. Grandpa decided Margaritas would be a good choice for a predinner drink. I'm not sure if it was how strong the drink was but he had us laughing so hard because the little hat HAD to go back on the bottle of tequilla just so.

I will always cherish the memory of my grandfather getting down on his hands and knees too play with his great-grandbabies when my kids, Juliette and Xavier, were born. I'm so thankful to have had such a "young" grandpa and that he was so close with my kids. We will miss you Grandpa Ed!

I will always remember my Uncle Ed as always doing something-working in the garden, cutting the lawn, working with his dogs, off to the firehouse along with hunting or fishing. He will be missed. Claudia Benson-niece of Ed and Irene's
