Obituary of James Voorman

Voorman, James (Jim) Edward of Midland Park, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend passed away peacefully in the afternoon of February 5, 2011, following a short illness. Jim was born June 30, 1927 in Midland Park, NJ, he served in the US Navy in World War II and was a life-long resident of Midland Park, NJ. In 2000, Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Dorothy Jean Voorman (Murray). He was preceded in death also by his parents, Tunis and Jenny Voorman. He is survived by his brother Gary (Lois) Voorman of Upland, CA, and sisters Alida June Elwood and Doris Malefyte, both of Canajoharie, NY. Also surviving are 3 children and 8 grandchildren: Richard and his wife (Mary Lagerwey) and their children (Alex (Meghan Cochran) and Arie) of Kalamazoo, MI; Craig and his wife (Linda Klug) and their children (Callie, Joel, and Allison) of Hudson, OH; and Susan and her husband (William Bavagnoli) and their children (Gina, Billy, and David) of Wyckoff, NJ, and his beloved friend, Marian Dunn who brought much joy to his life the past eight years. He was employed by and later owned the Ridgewood Laundry Co. until his retirement in 1987. Following retirement he was active at the Midland Park Senior Center, frequently providing musical accompaniment. Friends are welcomed to visit on Friday from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, www.vpfh.com. The funeral service will take place on Friday at 4:00 PM at the funeral home. The interment will be on Saturday, 10:00AM in Valleau Cemetery, Ridgewood. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to, Northwest Bergen Senior Center, 46-50 Center Street, Midland Park, NJ 07432.
