Obituary of Joseph Settineri

SETTINERI, Joseph, age 92, died peacefully at his winter residence in Boca Raton, FL on Monday, April 2, 2007. Born in the Bronx, NY, he moved to Garfield and Passaic before settling in Upper Saddle River in 1958. Joseph was a man of great compassion, honor, integrity and belief in the importance of family love and his fellow man. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle who taught his family and friends the virtues of love, respect and giving back through the way he lived. A self-made man, Joseph was a pioneer and founder of the prepared frozen food industry. Joseph invented and marketed the first frozen pizza, ravioli, sauces and the first pizza cutter. Joseph in 1946 founded the company, Roman Frozen Foods, Inc. of South Hackensack which became the largest seller of pizza and Italian frozen foods. He was the president and founder of the Eastern Frosted Food Association and other Food Organizations and Association and a founding member of the New Jersey Columbians. Joseph and his family was one of the first families attending the Church of the Presentation, Upper Saddle River where, for many years, he was an usher, an active supporter and an enthusiastic fundraiser for the development of the parish. He is survived by his beloved wife Marie (nee LaForte) to whom he was married for 66 wonderful years, his two sons; Joseph of Del Ray Beach, FL, and Thomas and his wife Patricia of Verona. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren; Maria, Jennifer, Justin and Tara, his dear great-grandchildren; Julia, Alexandra, Tyler, and Sophia, and his sister Vivian Filippone of Florida. Friends may visit the family on Monday, April 9, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff. Prayers at the funeral home will be offered on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, 10:00 AM, followed by an 11:00AM Mass at the Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River. Entombment will take place at Garden of Memories, Township of Washington.
