Obituary of John Cannizzo

CANNIZZO, John, J. age 83 of Wyckoff, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, January 24, 2011. Born July 25, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Cannizzo lived in Brooklyn for 48 years before moving to Wyckoff in 1975. He was a professional engineer who worked for United Water Resources (formerly Hackensack Water Company) in Harrington Park, NJ, serving as Chief Engineer from 1982 until his retirement in 1991. Previously, he held various positions including Associate Engineer at Buck, Seifert and Jost, a consulting engineering firm in NJ; Sanitary Engineer for the California Division of Water Resources; Chief Engineer for the City of Santa Monica, CA; and Civil Engineer with New York City's Board of Water Supply. He graduated from Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church. Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Rosetta; his devoted children, Connie Stewart and her husband Andy, and Salvatore Cannizzo and his wife Barbara, all of Wyckoff. John also leaves behind his six adoring grandchildren, as well as his faithful dog Max. Visiting is Thursday 2 - 4 PM and 7 - 9 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. Funeral mass will be held 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church, 700 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. Interment will be at Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.
