Obituary of Robert Ward

WARD, Robert E., Age 94 died peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2011. Born in New York City, June 14, 1916, he grew up in Rutherford, raised his family in Ho-Ho-Kus and later resided in Franklin Lakes and Wyckoff. Bob received his B.S. ChE from Newark College of Engineering, class of 1937. He later taught at Stevens Institute of Technology and was employed by Bendix, Kearfott, and Singer as Vice President of Operations. An avid skier and golfer for well over fifty years, Bob instilled a love for these sports in his family. He also enjoyed fast cars, woodworking, music and the game of bridge, but most of all, it was his devotion to his family that will be most remembered and sorely missed. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Edythe, and his infant son Jeffrey. Survived by his dear son Douglas and wife Virginia of Paradise Valley, AZ, his loving daughter Susan Barkauskas and husband Kenneth of Allendale, two grandaughters; Dr. Christina Barkauskas and husband Dr. Jack Haney of Durham, NC, and Elizabeth LoVecchio and husband Michael of Hoboken, a great-grandaughter, Alice Haney of Durham, NC and his brother Arthur C. Ward and wife Nancy of Hilton Head, SC. All services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Valley Hospice, 223 North Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood, NJ 07450, would be appreciated.
