Obituary of John Matarese
MATARESE, John A., age 82 of Franklin Lakes, passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Born in West Paterson, he lived in Franklin Lakes for the past 37 years. John served in the US Army Infantry during the Korean War.
John was a member of Carpenters Local 15 in Hackensack, last working for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority in East Rutherford, before retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, his son John of Franklin Lakes, and his step-daughters Brenda Albertini of Martinsburg, PA and Debbie O'Reilly of Fair Lawn. John is also survived by his sister Grace Surgent of Elmwood Park, his brother Frank Matarrese of Cummings, GA, and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his parents Giacomo and Frances Matarrese and his sister Mary Barraco.
Friends may visit the family on Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home (vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Funeral Mass, Tuesday, 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Interment will follow at the Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.
