Don Sweet, I remember the first time I heard Mr. Sweet's name. It had a ring to it. I never knew that he was a military man with an admirable career. But it is easy for me to imagine. He had wonderful leadership qualities and a way of presenting things that you understood and felt his passion. He was an excellent communicator and was always warm and considerate.
Celanese was my first look inside Corporate America, and I had the good fortune of meeting Mr. Sweet. I worked several levels down in the organization, an he knew me as just one of the many Employment Reps working for the Company. Yet, you knew, that when he was speaking to a group of us, it was personal. He knew you; and you knew him. That was the miracle of Don Sweet, he cared, and you felt it.
The World is richer; I am richer because he passed this way. I wished that I had told him that. I am sure there are many others who felt the same.

Donald Sweet was a deeply respected member of Patrol Squadron VPB 21. In addition, I have been grateful for many years for all he has done to maintain our squadron fellowship through reunions, newsletters, books and many other contributions. For many years his wife Joyce has become a valued supporter and member of the VPB 21 community. Joyce, Ellie and I are thinking of you and send our love to you and all of your family. Chad

Dear Joyce~ I have just reached home now, Fri. 3/2 at 7:50 pm, after an aborted attempt at visiting you & your family at Vander Platt's to express Jack and my condolences at the passing of your dear husband, Donald. It was simply impossible for me to read the street signs alone at night. Besides not driving at night -- Jack even refuses to be a car passenger. Your dear husband, Donald, was most indeed a phenomenal person! Love~ Vilma & Jack

My PC has not been making good Wireless connection lately so I haven't been able to read my E-mail. Today it is working again and was shocked to read the news about Don. Bob Cunningham sent me the Obituary. Don was a good friend and ship-mate while we were in the Navy and the friendship has continued over the years. It was always fun to be part of the reunions with Don being the "Main" Man. I will keep him in my prayers and Joyce I'll sneak in a couple for you so you can get through the days ahead. Again, I'm sorry to hear about Don.
