Kathy Le Mieux-Rodman posted a condolence
Friday, December 3, 2010
I remember going over to visit Mel, in the cool house in the woods....it was like being in a tree house or like visiting Peter in Neverland, and the heart of the house was Joan Downie. Years went by and I did not see Joan until a windy day in Brookline in yet another tree house. The Rodman family loved to visit the Maryniuk's because it was another tree house but in Boston. On this one occasion that we were visiting Joan was visiting Melinda. It was as if all of the years had been swept away and she was talking about ALL of her grandchildren and how proud she was of all of their accomplishments....
and then she began to talk of her daughters....and a smile crept across her face and a twinkle in her eyes as she described each of the 4 daughters accomplishments, joys and life so that I could "catch up" for all those years that I had not been in touch. She made it like no time had been lost. She taught me a lesson that I had never even shared with Melinda until even now......once connected you never lose that connection when true friendship and love is part of the years that go by. I read this the other day and want to share this with all of you in memory of Joan because it made me think of her. Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Hummingbirds open our eyes to the wonder of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends. Like a hummingbird, we aspire to hover and savor each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of everyday. The hummingbird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation. To the Downie Family my thoughts and love to all of you and know that your Mom and her love are with you every day because of who she was and is.....that is the coolest thing about love....it stays with you forever and hence she will be with you in your hearts forever.....our love and thoughts with you this moment and always, Kathy,Bill, David and Elissa

Dearest Carolyn and all the Downie family. My deepest condolences and prayers are with you. My Mom was 80 when I lost her and every day I gain strength and love remembering the wonderful person she was. As you know Carolyn, my Mom adored you and never stopped thanking you for all you did for Joelle. Your Mom was such a gracious and giving woman and all you girls benefited from her example. Keep your Mom close to you and your children, such a beautiful woman will live on forever. Joanne Boulin
