I am so sorry for your loss...our loss. Kevin was a former coworker of mine at Johnson & Johnson. We went through new hire training together and I immediately knew that I had made a friend for life. He was truly one of the funniest and most sincere people I have ever met. He turned some of the most stressful situations into something comical. He could always put a smile on my face. He touched so many people here and will be forever missed. I will always remember him.

Not many of us will ever get the opportunity to experience a 2nd chance at anything, never mind a 2nd chance at life. Well 4 months ago Kevin was given that 2nd chance at life. He "fought the fight", stayed "strong" and won the battle to see yet another day. Word spread quickly and support came from all across the US. Kevin was back! Having him back created set of other opportunities. Friends got to see and joke with him again. Family had the chance to tell him all over again how much he was adored and cherished. It also gave one very special woman the one and only chance at marrying Kevin. He waited 40 years for that special day, and may it only have been 4 months of marriage, those 4 months can and never be taken from Dani. He expressed to us all, just how happy Dani made him and that marrying her was one of the best days of his life! Kevin had and will always be a positive impact on each and everyone of our lives. The emptiness in my heart, I'm sure is being felt by everyone today and the days to come. Some have lost a co-worker, most have lost a friend, others have lost a family member and I have lost a brother and a whole lot more. Good Byes are forever, so lets tell Kevin we will just see him later, so we all can have that 2nd chance to tell Kevin just how much he will be missed and loved. I can't think of a minute, an hour, a day or more that I won't be thinking of him. As I wipe away the tears, no one will be able to remove the smile from my face, as I dream of being with him in that very special place. Kevin may now be gone but, his loving ways will never be forgotten. He has never forgotten any of us, so as we leave him today lets make a promise to Kevin that he will ALWAYS be remembered and NEVER forgotten. I LOVE YOU Kevin and I will NEVER forget YOU!

I just don't even know where to begin with this . . . . . I am so completely heartbroken to hear about Kevin. I have so many great memories of the times I spent with him and the entire Harkin crew during my HS/college years. Kevin was my buddy . . . always there with a laugh & a smile (he was really just completely ridiculous at times!) Kevin was blessed with that great Irish sense of humor and his love & light seemed to fill the room whenever he walked in! As I have recently told stories about him to my children and others, I cannot help but smile and think about how grateful I am to have had such a true friend in my life. I was looking forward to getting together with him again soon and meeting his beautiful wife, Dani. My thoughts and prayers are forever with each of you. I believe Kevin will always have a special place in the hearts of all who knew him. " . . . And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand." ~An Irish Blessing

To my dearest Friends the Harkins,
One story that will always be with me, and something I think about oftem, is when I met Kevin in Ridgewood at a restaurant and had the three boys with me. We had a good time at the restaurant and then when going toward the train station with Kevin (he was going back to the city) we were in the park in the middle of Ridgewood and a big snowball fight broke out with Kevin, me and the boys. It was such a great time and something my boys still remember. I am so glad the boys knew Kevin and got to enjoy good times with him. There are of course many stories, but this one is very special to me because the boys got to know Kevin better and see why he was a special friend to me and the kids.

I heard this awful news over the weekend. I graduated high school with Kevin - in school we were friendly but not particularly close, and we didn't keep in touch. Years after graduation, I bumped into Kevin, and he greeted me as if I were his best friend. That's what I remember about Kevin, that he was always great at making you feel welcome, like you belonged there with him. To see so many familiar names leaving condolences on this web page is a testament to what kind of guy he was - it's a truly special person who can keep so many good friends for so long. Please accept my deepest and most sincere condolences to all Kevin's friends and family.

To the Harkin family, It' been a long time since I saw Kevin but the four years we spent together at Don Bosco was a time I cherish. Kevin was my big brother on the football field. He was the only person I would loan my unique 3-horizontal bar facemask with no vertical bar running up the middle. Kevin envied it. I'm not really sure why he didn't figure out he could just buy the facemask with the vertical bar and just saw off the top part like I did...but I was happy to let him wear it on game day; it's not like I played much anyway. So many memories are coming back to me and I'm remembering how special Kevin was to me back then. I'm sitting here having to retell stories to my wife and kids about my friend Kevin they never met and who I did not get a chance to see before he left us. My words cannot possibly express how deeply saddened I am and I only hope that you may find comfort from the many people who were touched by Kevin's life.

For the past 2 days, I have not been able to accept this loss and I have been in denial the whole weekend. But sitting down to write on this page has made it a reality for me. When Doug and I first started dating, I remembered how lucky I felt that I met this great guy who just so happened to have such great friends; Kevin, of course, being one of them. Today, I sat and thought about the last 15 years of our life together and how Kevin had been a part of so many joyous moments for us and how he truly was a "man for all seasons." In the fall, he was with us all night for our October wedding and joined us for brunch the next day. He would always come in to the city to watch the Yankee playoffs with us. He was even there with us for the NYC marathons. In the winter, we would warm up and whet our whistles by going to Pete's Tavern or the Kinsale or most recently, the Palm, to celebrate his and Dani's engagement. In the spring, he would always come to our St. Patrick's Day parties. He was there for the christening of our first child in May. And then, when summer rolled around, those were some of our best times with Kevin--whether it was in the Hamptons, Mike's place in the Poconos, or good old NYC, the laughter and good times were guaranteed when Kevin was there. I can't help but think of Ted Kennedy when he talked of JFK Jr and the old Irish poem, "we dared to think we would see him comb gray hair." We were all supposed to grow old together and complain about our ailments over a few bottles of wine. But, now that I think about it, Kevin would never let himself go gray, let alone let his ailments get in the way of good times with good friends. A friend of mine recently posted something - "death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal." Doug and I are forever grateful for the abundant, fun-filled memories of a man who was stolen from us way too soon but for whom we have had the privilege of calling a very dear friend who we will cherish always. We will always miss you and we will always love you Kevin.
