Obituary of Elizabeth McVey

MCVEY, Elizabeth Capps "Betty" age 85, died peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2010. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to HoHoKus at the age of two and was a life-long resident. Betty was a devoted parishioner of St. Gabriel's Church in Saddle River where she served on the Parish Council and volunteered in many church activities. She took great pride in the community of HoHoKus, formerly serving as president of the Jr. Womens Club (now the Contemporary Club) and on Project Pride - a town-wide beautification effort. In her home life she had a particular love of flowers, both indoors and out, and was often found working in her gardens. Betty was never happier than when she was home with her family quietly reading next to Kevin, her husband of 52 years. She is also survived by her dear children Kitt Cela of East Hampstead, NH and Christopher of HoHoKus, and her two loving grandchildren Kealey and Cooper Cela. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home (www.vpfh.com), 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. Guests at the evening visitation will be invited to share remembrances. Funeral Mass, Monday, 10:30 AM at St. Gabriel's R.C. Church, 88 East Saddle River Road, Saddle River. Please meet at the church. Private cremation will follow. A Service of Committal will take place on Saturday, December 4, 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Cemetery, 340 North Franklin Tpke., HoHoKus. The family invites and welcomes all to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the HoHoKus Volunteer Ambulance Corp. P.O. Box 81, HoHoKus, NJ 07423, would be appreciated.
